About Me

I’m Val Kirkham, an illustrator and painter working mainly in gouache, creating fantasy landscapes filled with soft, whimsical magic. I’ve always been drawn to storytelling through nature and art.

I grew up in the French Alps, surrounded by mountains and a family of artists. My great-grandad was a plein air painter, capturing the landscapes around him, and his love of painting in nature has deeply shaped the way I see and create.

Now based in Yorkshire, I’m inspired by the region’s beauty and folklore. My current work explores little “portals” to other worlds—paintings I hope people can get lost in, pause with, and feel a sense of quiet magic and creativity.
